FAQ

Releasing Schedule: Tightcliff will feature new works every month, available as original pieces and giclée prints. We will only be listing prints for the first few months but always feel free to contact us directly if there is an original that you are interested in.  Prints will be available in editions, a collection of usually 20 at a time and restocked periodically throughout the year based on demand.

What is Giclée? Giclée (pronounced zhee-clay) refers to a type of fine art print production that uses a specialized high-resolution inkjet printer, and is known for its high quality and archival longevity.

Giclée versus Original: the obvious difference between the two options is price point. Having a print option allows for clients to have a quality piece of original artwork within a more flexible budget range, however the reproduction process means that certain colors and textures will look slightly different in a reproduction than in an original. Primarily neons and metallics will not be able to be precisely recreated by the Giclée machinery however, they will still be very similar. It also means that the detailed texture that tape achieves in original pieces will not always be as visible in a print recreation. Because Giclée is made to be archival, the colors of a print will last 200 years without preservation.

The Nature of Masking Tape: Because masking tape is by design, a temporary material, I have worked to find a method of preservation that will maintain the piece, while also allowing it to explore its own natural decay over time. I use a thin layer of clear sealant that will hold down the pieces and protects the color from fading quickly as it would normally. However, one of my first attractions to tape as a medium was its impermanence. It was so appealing (pun intended) to watch the mural start to peal and curl off the wall on its own and I hope to maintain space for that conversation with these works too. Each original piece will come with an identical giclée recreation. The original piece can hang on its own or as a diptych with its recreation, creating a working performance piece over time as one ages and the other does not.

Because tape is sticky and my studio companions are of the shedding variety, original pieces will have imperfections. Small hairs or specks of sand are impossible to exclude from the process (especially when using the sealant). I hope that it does not deter you and instead you see it as a love letter from the farm.
